THE UGANDAN FILM INDUSTRY IS STILL YOUNG
Should You Invest a lot of money while making a Ugandan film?
It is always a great experience meeting with film makers or someone we take as our idols.
These guys have really done something great for the industry, and director Hassan mageye had something to tell us especially young aspiring film makers,
While on set for an extra position on Tinka's Story i got a chance to interact with Director Hassan Mageye and we had a chance to exchange ideas and comments on the way forward for a industry and what one should do when investing an a film.
Looking at them as people who have made it in the industry, they also say they are in for it because of the passion and love for film and ain't in for making profits since the industry hasn't been streamlined so one shouldn't pour in a lot money expecting to reap big.
He was of the view that,
"we lack the people to consume the content and this is because of lack of a common language in our country Uganda since most regions speak a different language and not all people speak English.
The other issue is the lack of the ugandan community to support ugandan content as many don't believe in the content as they look at it as substandard and want compare the Ugandan industry to The Nigerian or Hollywood
- He continues that Ugandans haven't embraced local content to the fullest as not prefer following Telenovelas and the Television industry has not be supportive either since it prefers cheap content and it's option is buying Telenovelas.
- There is a problem of language since every district speaks a different language.
- He made this statement answering why the question as to why Nigerian Nollowood is bigger and a success because they have a few tribes and sects
- The film industry due to a lack of a common language in Uganda has not been favourable to film makers.
