Busoga's top official disapproves of Speaker Rebecca Kadaga

Our Kyabazinga's return is being obstructed by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.

Busoga family have accused Rebecca Alitwa Kadaga, speaker of the Ugandan parliament, of thwarting Kyabazinga's homecoming.

The Kyabazinga is the traditional head of the Basoga people in Uganda. This kingdom was established in the early 1980s by the colonial master who wanted to rule the countries indirectly. The chiefs and kings carried out the colonists' directives, which included;

  • Administration of the colony on behalf of the governor
  • collecting taxes
  • providing raw materials for factories in the colonial country
  • providing ready market to the processed goods

Why has Busoga not yet had a Kyabazinga?

We can trace it back to the formation of the Busoga monarchy, which was created by combining the many Busoga chiefdoms, which include;

  • Bugabula
  • Bukholi
  • Bukono
  • Bugweri
To mention a few.

Therefore, it was decided that the Kyabazinga, who would rule the Busoga community until his or her death, may be chosen in rotation from among the several princes of the various chiefdoms.

Power was smoothly handed from one family to another throughout the early years of the Busoga kingdom, but after the death of Welberfoce Gabula Nadiope, a regent had to be chosen to reign in place of the young prince William Nadiope, who was unable to manage the court affairs.

When Wako Wabuzi passed away, his son desired to succeed him as Kyabazinga, but the legitimate prince William Nadiope was old enough to reclaim the throne and assume control of the Busoga kingdom's court.

The question of who is the legitimate prince has been in contention, but Wako Wabuzi's family is aware of the truth—his father was only a regent to the young prince, and now that he is an adult, it is his turn to rule and manage the court.

Some chiefs are blaming the speaker of the Ugandan parliament for failing to resolve this matter because numerous politicians and the government of Uganda were involved in choosing who to support and who to oppose.
